Artist Statement

The Story Behind
“What a Pig Sees”

As a multi-dimensional artist, I bridge the ornate, coastal elegance of my childhood home in Avalon, Santa Catalina, with the grounded, communal spirit of Lassen County. My work is a dialogue between two worlds: the intricate geometries of Art Deco and Mediterranean Moorish architecture and the rugged, pastoral reality of the high desert and mountains.

I find my primary themes in the application of elaborate ornamentation to reflect my natural surroundings. By elevating the subjects of small-scale agriculture through a lens of high-style aesthetics, I explore the identity of our community and the human-animal bond that sustains it. This work aims to highlight the dignity of local farms and ranches, honoring those who contribute to the welfare of animals within our unique rural landscape.

The 2026 Lassen County Fair will take place from July 15–19, 2026, at the fairgrounds in Susanville, CA. Themed “Red, White, and You!” in celebration of America’s 250th birthday, the event features nightly grandstand entertainment, a parade, and the Junior Livestock Auction.

What a Pig Sees

The art installation of “What a Pig Sees” captures the imagination of these Lassen County forested plateaus. As we focus on capturing the four seasons of California’s crossroads and the eastern part of the Shasta Cascade Region.

We also celebrate and seek to support the individuals who have shaped our landscapes and love for animals. Many throughout Lassen County help in sustaining these intelligent beings.

The interactive project of “What a Pig Sees” captures the visual world in which a pig’s life is surrounded by the scale of our unique environment. Connecting indigenous traditions and an interconnected network of souls and energy that support the physical ecosystems they inhabit.

Brought to life through imagery, repurposed and reused materials we invite the public to see the visuals of our earthly environment and the manifestations of the creatures our world holds.
